The PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv, Ukraine, presents exhibition of the 21 shortlisted artists for the third edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, the first global art prize for artists up to 35, founded by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. The exhibition focuses on a newly produced works of nominees giving a remarkable view on the most actual artistic positions of a next generation of artists.

The 20 shortlisted artists represent 17 different countries. They have been selected from more than 5,500 applications received from 148 countries spread across all continents through the open and democratic online-application procedure. The artists were nominated by 7 members of the Selection Committee, competent and global art-professionals nominated by the Jurors of the Prize.

The 21^st nominee for the Future Generation Art Prize 2014 is Zhanna Kadyrova, the winner of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2013, a national contemporary art prize awarded to young Ukrainian artists up to 35.

Evans, 31 (USA/Belgium), Aslan Gaisumov, 23 (Russia), Ximena Garrido-Lecca, 34 (Peru), He Xiangyu, 27 (China), Jia Aili, 34 (China), Nikita Kadan, 31 (Ukraine), Zhanna Kadyrova, 32 (Ukraine), Mauricio Limón, 34 (Mexico), Adrian Melis, 28 (Cuba), Nástio Mosquito, 32 (Angola), Carlos Motta, 36 (Colombia), Pilar Quinteros, 26 (Chile), Jon Rafman, 32 (Canada), Cally Spooner, 31 (UK), Allyson Vieira, 35 (USA), GCC (Arabian Gulf region) and Public Movement (Israel).

Almost all the artists came to Kyiv for the opening of the show at the PinchukArtCentre.

In the framework of the exhibition Public Movement will perform on 24 October a work accident during the opening of the exhibition. Later they will present a newly created outdoor performance which will be taking place Saturday at 15:00 November 15, 2014.

November 16, 2014 Pilar Quinteros will give a performance starting at PinchukArtCentre and carrying out to Maidan (Independence Square) a cardboard reconstruction of the original Fountain that was removed from Maidan after the renovations in 2001.

Additionally, James Bridle has created an outdoor work “rainbowplane” presented on the inside the open square of Arena City Complex.

Björn Geldhof, Deputy Artistic Director and Curator of the PinchukArtCentre: “The Future Generation Art Prize exhibition, presents 21 small-scale solo-exhibitions with a main focus on recent works. With a special attention for new productions, PinchukArtCentre enabled almost all artists to present their latest creations. It grew into a very emotional exhibition, connecting different themes and artistic practices, including researched based works, works with an emphasis on the performative and artistic practices deeply influenced by new media.”

The International Jury of the Future Generation Art Prize 2014 includes:

• Francesco Bonami – Curator, Director of the 50th Biennale di Venezia (Italy);
• Jan Fabre – Artist (Belgium);
• Doris Salcedo – Artist (Colombia);
• Eckhard Schneider – General Director of the PinchukArtCentre (Ukraine);
• Bisi Silva – Independent curator, Director for the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (Nigeria);
• Adam Szymczyk – Artistic director of documenta 14 (Poland);
• Philip Tinari – Director of the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing (China).

The respected international jury will choose and announce the winner of the main prize who will receive a generous $100,000 prize ($60,000 in cash and $40,000 toward production of a new work) at the Award Ceremony on December 6, 2014 in Kyiv (Ukraine). An additional $20,000 from the Foundation will be allotted to fund artist-in-residency programs to the special prize winner.
