History of the prize

The PinchukArtCentre presents a group show of the 20 artists shortlisted for the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2011, first private nationwide contemporary art prize in Ukraine for young Ukrainian artists up to 35. The exhibition features 20 new artists’ statements which were specially produced with the support of the PinchukArtCentre. The exhibition will be open from October 29, 2011 until  January 8, 2012.

The 20 nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2011 were shortlisted by an Expert Committee from more than 1100 applicants. Among them: Daniil Galkin, Andriy Halashyn, Dobrynia Ivanov, Mykyta Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Taras Kamennoy, Olesia Khomenko, Alina Kleitman, Volodymyr Kuznetsov, Lada Nakonechna, Serhiy Petlyuk, Serhiy Radkevych, Stepan Riabchenko, Mykola Ridnyi, Mykyta Shalennyi, Masha Shubina, Natasha Shulte, Ivan Svitlychnyi, Hamlet Zinkovskyi, Salmanov-Kornienko group (Oleksiy Salmanov; Dmytro Kornienko).

The project includes more than 60 works and will be on display on the 3rd and 4th floor, including a special installation in front of the PinchukArtCentre by Zhanna Kadyrova and a monumental mural inside of the historical Bessarabskiy market by Serhiy Radkevych. PinchukArtCentre continues with these two works to bring contemporary art into the public space embedding it in daily life.

Eckhard Schneider, Director General of the PinchukArtCentre: “The fact that almost half of the shortlisted artists in 2011 participated in the first PAC Prize exhibition in 2009, and that a half are newcomers – is a wonderful combination which shows that we are going in the very right direction, proving firstly that the experienced ones have the artistic capacity still to advance, and secondly that Ukraine has a growing reservoir of young talents. This show is an important step on a long march of commitment of the PinchukArtCentre for a future generation of a growing audience and a growing artists’ community in Ukraine.”
