The exhibition will be open from October 29, 2011 until January 8, 2012.
The 20 nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2011 were shortlisted by an Expert Committee from more than 1100 applicants. Among them: Daniil Galkin, Andriy Halashyn, Dobrynia Ivanov, Mykyta Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Taras Kamennoy, Olesia Khomenko, Alina Kleitman, Volodymyr Kuznetsov, Lada Nakonechna, Serhiy Petlyuk, Serhiy Radkevych, Stepan Riabchenko, Mykola Ridnyi, Mykyta Shalennyi, Masha Shubina, Natasha Shulte, Ivan Svitlychnyi, Hamlet Zinkovskyi, Salmanov-Kornienko group (Oleksiy Salmanov; Dmytro Kornienko).
The project includes more than 60 works and will be on display on the 3rd and 4th floor, including a special installation in front of the PinchukArtCentre by Zhanna Kadyrova and a monumental mural inside of the historical Bessarabskiy market by Serhiy Radkevych. PinchukArtCentre continues with these two works to bring contemporary art into the public space embedding it into daily life.
Also, the PinchukArtCentre presents the first solo exhibition by Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle, the Main Prize Winner of the Future Generation Art Prize 2010, outside of Brasil. The show entitled See to be seen includes a new large-scale installation and a new specially produced film. The exhibition is located on the 2nd floor of the art centre and will last from October 29, 2011 to January 8, 2012.
The monumental installation See to be seen has been created with the support of PinchukArtCentre. Marcelle developed in this installation a carpet that covers a hidden landscape of dust. This new work is a topological research conducted by an appropriation of ordinary things and industrial materials. The work starts from the simple gesture: hiding the dust under the carpet. It serves as a metaphor for hiding our mistakes, our dirt from the eye. Marcelle’s landscape is a reflection on the continuous historical repetition of this gesture and represents centuries of dust hidden under the carpet.
As part of the РАС-UA PinchukArtCentre presents the third project - a solo exhibition by Oleksandr Roytburd. The show entitled If there is no water running from your tap will be open to public on the 5th floor at the PAC-UA space in the context of the Collection Platform from October 29 to November 27, 2011.
The show includes a number of portraits of the famous Ukrainians and world icons such as Fyodor Dostoevsky, Michael Jackson, Mahatma Gandhi, Vitaliy and Volodymyr Klitchko, Alexander Pushkin, Taras Shevchenko, The Beatles, Lev Tolstoy and Andy Warhol. The artist depicts these personalities as Hasids, telling a story of “hidden Jews” of the Soviet Union era. At that time the majority of Jews was ashamed or even afraid to reveal their nationality, as there were limitations for Jews applying for certain jobs, entering universities or joining the communist party.
The PinchukArtCentre also presents Collection Platform 2: Circulation, a completely renewed exhibition of selected works from the collection representing leading international and Ukrainian contemporary artists. The show located on the 5th floor of the art centre will be on display from October 29 till May, 2012.
